PRACTICING SELF COMPASSION
It’s so easy to go through life being ultra critical of yourself, but when it comes down to it, being overly self critical just leads to anxiety and depression. Instead, we’re encouraging you to toss the negativity aside and replace it with self compassion.
Start thinking differently.
It can be difficult to lift yourself up if you’re trapped in a negative thought cycle, which is exactly why it’s important to start thinking why it’s important to start thinking of yourself in a positive light. It may seem easier said than done, but if you start thinking about yourself the same way you think about someone you admire you’ll live a much happier life.
We’ve all made mistakes and struggled with failure. It’s a natural part of life, and beating yourself up about it isn’t going to fix the problem. Instead, try forgiving yourself and moving forward. We have a previous blog post about staying motivated through failure that might help.
Spend time doing what you enjoy.
Another way to practice self compassion is to spend some time doing what you enjoy most - be it playing tennis or binging your favorite Netflix show. As long as it is something that brings you inner peace.
Take care of your body.
This involves eating healthy, staying active, and steering clear of stress - which is seriously bad for your health. Try going out for a hike or practicing yoga. Or, you could cook your favorite healthy meal or take a relaxing epsom salt bath. Through all the stress of daily life, it's all to easy to forget about yourself. Please remember to take care of your body. After all, a happy body is more likely to house a happy mind.
